JOURNEY TOUR SCHEDULED TO OPEN VIRTUAL WORLD IN SECOND LIFE!

JOURNEY TOUR SCHEDULED TO OPEN VIRTUAL WORLD IN SECOND LIFE!
January 25, 2008 — On February 1, multi-Platinum rockers Journey will release their new Virtual Island in Second Life. A grand opening party is planned inside Second Life at the “Journey Rock Band” sim and will feature a meet and greet with band members.  Live DJs will be spinning many of Journey’s classic hits, recorded studio and live performances, as well as lots of other great music for fans to party to! The grand opening party is scheduled to start at 10:00am ET/PT. The Journey Island region in Second Life is named “Journey Rock Band”.  Learn more at http://www.secondlife.com.
Journey has long been known for innovations in stage sets, so creating a Second Life Island for fans to enjoy was an easy decision. The Island features dedicated areas for each album along with audio and video presentations. There are also two venues on the island, the Escape Club and the Captured Amphitheater, where live SL events can be held.
Journey’s newly redesigned website, http://www.journeymusic.com, will be re-launch on or around January 29.  It will feature band history, tour information, photos and a new forum.
Journey is currently working on a new album with legendary producer Kevin Shirley, which they hope to release by spring/summer 2008.  Their 2008 world tour begins in Santiago, Chile mid-February.  More tour dates will be announced soon.
The Journey Island was built by Industrial-Design.com, Journey’s long time web developer and features work by SL builders Farrokh Vavoom, Argus Collingwood, Adrian Harbinger and Jocelyn Sands.
Recent Press Release:
Journey–Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums)–is proud to introduce fans all over the world to their new lead singer, Arnel Pineda (”pin-eh-da”). He replaces Jeff Scott Soto, who parted ways with the band earlier this year after stepping in for Steve Augeri, who had to leave the band in 2006 for medical reasons.
Arnel hails from Quezon City in the Philippines and has been singing Journey songs–in addition to original material–with his band, The Zoo, for the past couple of years in clubs all over his homeland. Joining the legendary band is a dream come true for him.
“It’s so exciting to sing with one of the best bands in the world. It’ll be a lot of hard work on my part and I’m actually looking forward to the scrutiny I’ll get from the hardcore Journey fans. I know they’ll expect me to sound exactly like `the voice` (Steve Perry), but that will never happen. I know there’s only one Steve Perry in this world.”
When it was time for Journey to look for a new lead singer, the internet came to their rescue. Guitarist Neal Schon wanted someone new to the music business, so he turned to YouTube. After finding Arnel singing “Faithfully,” he knew he had found the perfect frontman.
“I was frustrated about not having a singer,” explains guitarist Neal Schon, “so I went on YouTube for a couple of days and just sat on it for hours. I was starting to think I was never going to find anybody. But then I found The Zoo and I watched a bunch of different video clips that they had posted. After watching the videos over and over again, I had to walk away from the computer and let what I heard sink in because it sounded too good to be true. I thought, `he can’t be that good. But he is that good, he’s the real deal and so tremendously talented. Arnel doesn’t sound synthetic and he’s not emulating anyone. I tried to get a hold of him through YouTube and I finally heard from him that night, but it took some convincing to get him to believe that it really was me and not an imposter.”
Arnel Pineda picks up the story: “My friend Noel picked up the message on YouTube and told me it was from Neal. I thought it was a hoax so I ignored it. Noel said, `what if it really was Neal and he wanted to offer you the chance of a lifetime?` So I e-mailed Neal back and the rest is history.”
“Arnel brings a soulful and passionate voice to Journey,” continues keyboardist Jonathan Cain. “His personality is very well-suited to our music. He’s a sincere, authentic person with a great smile and a big heart. I think fans are really going to love him. With Arnel’s soaring tenor, Journey returns to our heritage sound.”
Schon agrees, “We feel reborn. I think there’s a lot of chemistry between the five of us. At first we were going to go into the studio and just write 4 songs, but now it’s escalated to a lot of great new and diverse material. The stuff sounds tremendous. Everyone’s so stoked about it. We feel very fortunate to have found Arnel.”

DEPRESSED DAVE GAHAN’S HOURGLASS ALBUM (FROM DEPECHE MODE) - REMIXES SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 11th

January 24, 2008

DEPRESSED DAVE GAHAN’S HOURGLASS ALBUM (FROM DEPECHE MODE)  - REMIXES SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 11th

January 24, 2008

DAVE GAHAN’S HOURGLASS - REMIXES
SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 11th RELEASE
ON MUTE/VIRGIN RECORDS

DAVE GAHAN will follow 2007’s HOURGLASS with a vinyl collection of remixes of songs from the critically acclaimed album. HOURGLASS - REMIXES, scheduled for March 11th release via Mute/Virgin Records, features Juan Maclean, Booka Shade, Kap10Kurt, Maps, T. Raumschmiere, Digitalism, Onur Ozer and Sebastien Leger taking on tracks such as hit single “Kingdom,” (recently #1 on Billboard’s Singles chart and #5 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart), “Deeper & Deeper,” “Use You” and “Saw Something” plus “Love Will Leave,” a b-side from the HOURGLASS sessions. The collection will mark the first time many of these versions have been released physically in the United States; numerous selections that have been available only as imports until now.

HOURGLASS - REMIXES, which will include a free CD, will be available exclusively through thinkindie.com, which services the best independent music retailers in America with exclusive and rare items that are not available via major chain and big-box stores. The bonus CD includes all eight tracks from the vinyl plus three additional remixes. Visit thinkindie.com for a complete list of outlets.

With his second solo album, the Depeche Mode front man emerged as a gifted songwriter, masterfully capturing man’s race against  — and fear of running out of - time. Filter’s “Good Music Guide” called the album “astonishingly brilliant…squaring off with everything from nihilism to the tyranny of humans. And all the while aching for something of real value and consequence” while Rolling Stone noted: “Hourglass goes all the way electro…Gahan broods over God and humanity and the bleakness of existence in ballads like ‘Kingdom’ and ‘Saw Something.’ But he gets off a fantastic sex-hound growl in ‘Use You,’ with a gospel vibe recalling Songs of Faith and Devotion.”

GAHAN’s LIVE FROM SOHO, recorded in October at the Apple Store in New York City, was released on iTunes on December 18th and he recently performed on NPR’s “World Café.”

Joe Jackson to Release “Rain” album January 29

January 17, 2008

Joe Jackson to Release “Rain” album January 29

JOE JACKSON TO RELEASE “RAIN,” JANUARY 29, 2008

ALBUM MADE WITH THREE OF THE FOUR ORIGINAL JOE JACKSON BAND MEMBERS

Rykodisc/Warner Music Canada is proud to announce the release of the new Joe Jackson record on January 29th, 2008. Entitled, “Rain,” it’s the first Jackson record since the brilliant and critically acclaimed “Volume 4″ was released in 2003. While “Volume 4″ and the seven-month tour that followed featured the reunion of the original, iconic Joe Jackson Band, “Rain,” was made with three of those four members: Jackson (vocals and keyboards), Graham Maby (bass/vocals) and Dave Houghton (drums/vocals). The record was made in Jackson’s newly-adopted city of Berlin in a studio called Planet Roc.

Very much in keeping with the eclecticism of Jackson’s wonderful three-decade spanning career, “Rain” continues to extend the boundaries of his craft. Reflecting the title, the record is melancholic in places, but also boasts plenty of humour, swing, sophistication, and barbed social commentary as well as some out and out rockers. The common thread running through the record is its simplicity; where Jackson’s distinctive piano and voice, Maby’s intricate and melodic bass, and Houghton’s tough and tender drums are all you hear. Richly produced by Jackson and mixed by Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade, “Rain” boasts a broad, grand sound that is open yet tightly wound and focused at the same time with Jackson’s deceptively simple melodies delivering lyrics with deep, sympathetic glimpses into the human spirit written by a man who is keenly sensitive, sharp and complex.

About the four-year break between albums, Jackson says: “I wasn’t in a hurry to make a new album. I promised myself that I wouldn’t make a record until I had an album’s worth of songs that were the best I could do. I think several of these songs are the best songs I’ve ever written, and I wanted to have 10 or 12 songs that I felt that way about before I put out another album. I used to be a bit of a workaholic, but I am now much more patient. The quantity has gone down, but the quality has gone up.”

The band will be performing in Canada on the following dates:

April 1 – Toronto – Music Hall
April 2 – Montreal – Metropolis
May 5 – Vancouver – Chan Centre

DISNEY PROPELS THE CD EVOLUTION OF THE JONAS BROTHERS

January 17, 2008

DISNEY PROPELS THE CD EVOLUTION OF THE JONAS BROTHERS

WYKOFF, NEW JERSEY - JANUARY 2008: The Jonas Brothers, who signed with the
Hollywood Records earlier this year, are making the most of their teenage
years. The brothers found themselves reaching a new audience early in 2006
when the Disney Channel put the band’s “Year 3000″ video into heavy
rotation. Currently on the massive “Best of Both Worlds Tour” with Miley
Cyrus, otherwise known as the star of the Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana,”
the siblings and their band mates frequently jet around to play extra shows
on their days off. To ensure continuity between the arena shows and the fly
dates, the band’s monitor engineer, Woody Nuss, is carrying Sennheiser
evolution wireless G2 series vocal microphones and personal monitor systems
wherever they go.

“When we travel we make sure we have our own mics and ears,” explains Nuss,
who has been mixing monitors for brothers Nick, Kevin and Joe and their
three-piece band since June. Local rental companies can’t always be relied
on to supply the Sennheiser gear we need, he says. “It’s at the point where
we have to bring our own gear. We’re using the SKM 935 G2 handhelds with EM
550 G2 receivers for vocals. We’re quite happy with the gear and are using
them virtually everywhere.”

All six band members are also using evolution wireless G2 personal monitor
systems, he continues. “I travel with six ear mixes in a three-space rack
tucked into a Pelican case, with the two receivers and a NET 1 frequency
finder in another Pelican case. We can fly with those as checked luggage.
We’re using the A 5000-CP circular antenna for the monitors with the AC 2
antenna combiner.”

The proliferation of broadcast channels, particularly HDTV, has made the
frequency agility and scanning capabilities of Sennheiser RF equipment
critical for trouble-free wireless operation. “That’s where the NET 1 really
comes in handy,” says Nuss. “In Dallas, at the Texas State Fair, all the
Spanish language television antennas were right behind the venue and only
one clean frequency appeared to be available, but the NET 1 solved the
problem.” He explains, “It does its own scan. I look. It’s clean and we go.
With the NET 1, you just point the mic at the receiver and it does
everything for you through the infrared. It’s sweet!”

The lineup includes brothers Joe, age 18, on lead vocals, Nick, age 15, who
has performed in several Broadway shows since the age of seven, on guitar
and Kevin, who recently turned 20, also on guitar. The band’s musical
director, John Taylor, is on keyboards, as well as guitar. Additionally,
Greg Garbowsky is on bass and Jack Lawless is on drums. Nuss continues, “We
are using the ew 172 G2 guitar systems with the ASP 2 splitters and the A
2003 UHF ’shark fin’ antennas on the guitars. The guitar tech is thrilled
with the increased signal strength and tone he is now getting.”

The Jonas Brothers are also using a variety of evolution wired microphones
on the tour, which is in support of their self-titled second album, which
recently reached #5 on The Billboard 200. “The backing singers are on e
935s,” reports Nuss. “We’re using e 602s on the kick and floor toms, an e
604 on the tom and the new e 905 on the snare, and the e 906 on the guitar
amps.”

Nuss has worked with a variety of bands in the past, including Goo Goo
Dolls, Pete Yorn, Wolfmother, the Lemonheads, Dinosaur Jr., Marc Cohn, Urge
Overkill, Camper Van Beethoven, and Cracker. “This is the first time that
I’ve done anything that’s not really indie rock. When they called me about
this job, they said, they’re a pop group, but the boys actually play
Marshalls and Ampegs, and if they had a musical influence it would be like
if you blended the Ramones, the Clash and Justin Timberlake. They’re not
playing soft pop stuff, they’re rocking out!”

The “Best of Both Worlds Tour” is scheduled to continue through early
January. In February, the Jonas Brothers are set to begin their own
headlining tour. Disney has tapped the Jonas Brothers as one of their
signature breakout stars with a music-filled movie, “Camp Rock,” premiering
in September 2008. The three brothers will also star in a Disney live-action
spy comedy TV series entitled “J.O.N.A.S.” (Junior Operatives Networking As
Spies) starring the trio as a group of government hired spies in early 2008.
The film and the series, plus a concert special, “Jonas Brothers in
Concert,” filmed in New York in October, will air on the Disney Channel
worldwide.

The beloved rock band’s 14th studio album, Accelerate was recorded in Vancouver, Canada, Dublin, Ireland and Athens, Georgia last spring with Grammy Award-winning producer Jacknife Lee, who is noted for his work with U2 (How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb), as well as Snow Patrol, Bloc Party and Kasabian.

The clips were shot by noted French filmmaker Vincent Moon, who has worked with Arcade Fire, The Shins and The National among other artists.
In what is set to be an active year for the band, R.E.M. has also so far announced two upcoming live appearances. The band will headline the Langerado Music Festival on March 8th at the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation in South Florida, and will also perform at Stubb’s Bar-B-Que on March 12th during the annual South-by-Southwest Music Festival in Austin, TX.

One of rock’s best-selling and most critically acclaimed bands, the multiple Grammy-winning trio, along with original drummer Bill Berry, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2007
