"Live Free Or Die Hard" - Franchise Does The Latter

Perhaps the best thing about Bruce Willis’ latest outing as John McClane is the title. "Live Free Or Die Hard" (2007) sounds less cheesy than its precursor, "Die Hard With a Vengeance." And– as titles go– is certainly an improvement on "Die Hard 2: Die Harder."
But as far as content, "Live Free" is easily the worst entry in the series.
The stunts and special effects are entertaining to be sure. Unfortunately, the story is so ludicrous it prevents even the slightest suspension of disbelief, an essential element for the genre. Take for example the opening scenes of the film. The bad guys are killing off computer hackers by uploading a virus to their respective systems.
What kind of virus?
The kind of virus that when you hit "delete," your house explodes in a ball of fire. How a digital virus results in such a massive fireball I’ll never know. Maybe we are supposed to assume the bad guys have wired bombs inside the hackers’ gear, but such details are routinely glossed over in a world where everything– and I mean everything– is possible with a keyboard an high speed internet connection.
A typical set piece runs like this:
The villain looms over his computer screen, monitoring John McClane’s automobile driving through Washington D.C. (The villain has satellite access.)
McClane drives through an underground tunnel, closed for construction, on his way to headquarters. (Convenient.)
With a few clicks of his mouse, the villain alters the detour signs and reroutes traffic. At each end of the tunnel, hapless motorists begin speeding towards each other with McClane sandwiched in the middle. (I guess the villain also has remote access to traffic lights and signs. Luckily for him, D.C. drivers will happily zoom the wrong way down a one way tunnel because the signals told them to.)
Then the tunnel lights go out. (Which means he has remote access to the electrical grid too!)
Now that’s ingenuity. Did I mention the villain’s master plan is to electronically manipulate all U.S. transportation, government, financial and utility systems simultaneously? He wants to erase the financial records, "reset the clock," and "send us back to the stone age." An ambitious plan, to say the least.
In a movie like "The Rock" we allow such implausibilities to sneak by without much thought, because unlikely as they may be, they are at least POSSIBLE. In the world of "Live Free Or Die Hard," the villain could probably use a cell phone to hack into McClane’s nervous system.
The more you can avoid thinking analytically, the more you will enjoy this movie. Highlights include watching McClane take down a helicopter with an automobile, and Kevin Smith (of "Clerks") as the hacker called Warlock. He lives in his Mom’s basement which he refers to as the "command center."

Man boobs, or moobs as it is sometimes referred as, is the unwanted development of breasts in a male. This can be from a number of varying factors. One such factor is the food and drinks that a man chooses to place inside his mouth. In society, men are often viewed as the ‘meat and potato’ eaters of the world. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, it can lead to the development of man boobs over time.
While man boobs can develop in any male age group, the most common one is men in the 40 to 50 year old age range. On the whole, man boobs are simply fatty tissue deposits that do not go away. This can explain the appearance later on in a man’s life. Food and beverage consumption over time increases estrogen levels in the male body. Left untreated, the breast tissue hardens and becomes a self esteem issue for males. It is difficult for a man to feel attractive to members of the opposite sex with the development of man boobs on his chest. In turn, many women do not find this to be an attractive feature in a man either.
Foods
Several food sources are linked to the contribution of man boobs. At the top of this list are meat products. The contamination comes not so much from the meat itself but from the meat source, i.e. cows. Many meat production plants inject cows with growth hormones in order to stimulate the growth cycle of the cow. A bigger cow leads to more money in meat products. A majority of that growth hormone injection is filled with estrogen. In a man who is a huge meat eater, this can cause a problem. Especially if that man is also overweight. The digestion of estrogen filled meat will increase the level of estrogen found in a male body. As this estrogen level increases the body reacts in a normal way by producing man boobs. In some cases, this can even lead to the secretion of milk from the enlarged breast tissues.
Soy is another product that should be avoided whenever possible. In a bean form, soy contains certain levels of plant estrogen. Levels of soy plant estrogen can not generate a pure estrogen behavioral or psychological response in the body. However, the body can be fooled by plant estrogen into thinking it is actually receiving pure estrogen. With the feeling of this in a system, the body is going to produce natural estrogen inducing results, i.e. man boobs.
Drinks
Virtually every man likes to kick back and have a beer with his buddies every once in awhile. This is not harmful in moderation but it can be something that contributes to the development of man boobs if it goes unchecked. The principle is simple. Beer drinking lowers the levels of testosterone in the male body and increases the levels of estrogen which is a female hormone.
For a couple of drinks on an occasional basis with the boys, this will prove to have no long term effect. However for a male who has a significantly high beer intake level, over time the estrogen levels will continue to build in the body. As this occurs, the body will begin to treat this high level accordingly by developing breast tissue. The end result is man boobs.
The development of man boobs is not limited to beer intake. Alcohol in general, when consumed in large quantities, can also play a role in development. As alcoholic beverages are ingested, testosterone levels start to decrease within the body. Ingredients in the alcohol mix with the body chemicals to send estrogen levels on the rise. Over time, the body can not determine that the estrogen levels are coming from alcohol intake. The end result is unwanted man boob development.
Recreational Drugs
Engaging in the recreational use of marijuana can also lead to the development of man boobs. The active ingredient in this drug is TCH which is a testosterone suppressant. With nothing to build up testosterone levels, the body will naturally turn to estrogen production. Fat deposits continue to grow and eventually turn into the development of man boobs.
Conclusion
The presence of man boobs is rapidly increasing in society. There is not the stigma attached to it today as there was several years ago. Processed food certainly plays a role in this. More and more of our food products are over processed with chemicals. Alcohol consumption is on the rise as well. Many men are not going to give up the ‘meat and potato’ style of eating. So as with anything else in life, food and beverage consumption in moderation is the key to preventing the unwanted development of man boobs.

Watch TV or surf the net?? Hmmm its a tough one for me but did you know a new IDC study has found that the Internet wins with an average of 32.7 hours/week compared to watching television at 16.4 hours. This also compares well with the good old printed matter, reading newspapers and magazines came out at 3.9 hours.
"The time spent using the Internet will continue to increase at the expense of television and, to a lesser extent, print media," said Karsten Weide, program director, Digital Media and Entertainment at IDC. "This suggests that advertising budgets will continue to be shifted out of television, newspapers, and magazines into Internet advertising."
Interestingly the study shows that people tend to use the media they are accustomed to and grew up with. The older the respondents, the more they consume TV, newspapers, and magazines whilst the younger they are, the more the Internet gets used.
This trend seems to be only going one way as the internet grows and diversifies. As Internet usage becomes more advanced with mobile pc’s, laptops, and the ever evolving mobile phones/pc hybrids being released constantly and all using WiFi to have unlimited and constant access to the Internet.
A major fact is also that many public places are becoming free wifi zones and allowing internet useage seamlessly from your home to your place of business or leisure.
Its interesting to look at your surfing and tv watching habits and ask yourself the question. So do you spend more time in front of the TV or surfing the net?

If you want to keep your interview process simple but effective, you need to take a look at these steps before conducting your next candidate interview. Enjoy!
1. Call the candidate prior to setting up an interview. Keep the conversation non-technical! Get a feel for their personality and attitude. If you don’t feel good about those two things there is no reason to move on with the process.
2. Have a face-to-face non-technical interview. Get your existing team members involved in this one. See how everyone interacts with this candidate. Be sure there are no technical questions asked. Discussions on technology is fine. If your existing team doesn’t mesh with this person there is no reason to move on. There is one thing to keep in mind here. Be sure that you involve team members that you value and know are comitted the product you are developing. EVERY team has one or two people that are usually on their way out the door in one way or another so don’t sabotage the candidate by involving those people.
3. Get your 3 best developers and have them put together a very small database and a data access class (like the one described in this post - http://www.keepitsimpleprojects.com/viewtopic.php?t=14 ). Be sure that any environment specific configurations are set (e.g. connection string, etc.) Have them put together a very basic set of requirements for an application (e.g. the application should allow the user to create a paragraph of text and save it for retrieval at a later time. The total number of characters in the paragraph cannot exceed 1000.). If the job requires a specific skill, be sure it is included in some way.
4. Bring the candidate in for the technical interview. No need to get the team involved in this one. Have a quiet space set up for the candidate and ask them to develop an application based on the requirements (in step 3). Be sure that there is already a solution open in Visual Studio containing the data access class and any other code your team has decided to provide. Make sure they have full access to the internet. LET THEM DO THIS ALONE. DON’T STAND OVER THEIR SHOULDER!
5. Have your team review the code and provide feedback. Your decision should be very easy at this point.
This process will eliminate people that are not a fit for your team and it will also give you a very clear picture of the candidate’s skill level, resourcefulness, and experience.
