Poor Velvet Revolver goes online for new singer search for next album as Scott Weiland is out

Velvet Revolver are holding auditions online to find a replacement for recently departed singer Scott Weiland.

"The band is actually talking about building a website and doing some auditions via that, so that’s been something that’s developing at this point,” guitarist Slash said. "We’re at that point of just listening to different things. It’s one of those kinds of situations where you can’t really explain it to anybody because you’ll know it when you hear it.

Weiland had left the group earlier this month after a series of arguments with the rest of the band.

XXL Interview: 50 Cent should let this Young Buck Rivalry go

April 25, 2008

XXL Interview: 50 Cent should let this Young Buck Rivalry go

ormer XXL Editor-In-Chief Elliott "YN" Wilson opens up about leaving the publication, the challenges of his new reality show, "Miss Rap Supreme," a possible Jay-Z biography, and his advice to 50 Cent.

This January, the public was shocked when it was revealed that Wilson had been dismissed from his XXL post. While tight-lipped regarding the circumstances of his removal, months later, Wilson says he’s at peace with the change.

"It’s business and a decision was made," YN told SOHH. "We move on. Everything comes to an end. I think it was shocking to people, which is flattering, because I think people feel like ‘I can’t imagine this without him.’ That’s cool, but at the end of the day it’s a business and sometimes you’re not on the same page and decisions get made. They’re still in a strong state and everything is gonna be fine on my end."

Wilson also says he’s unable to find anything negative to say about his newly appointed replacement, Datwon Thomas, who took over the reigns as EIC this February.

"I’ve got a lot of respect for him," Wilson admits. "He’s a good dude. You can’t hate Datwon. Trying to hate Datwon is like hating your mama. The irony is that he was somebody who was there before I took over who encouraged me to take the job in the first place, so we have a really rich history there."

These days Wilson is producing VH1’s "Miss Rap Supreme" alongside his ego trip collective of hip-hop enthusiast. He told SOHH the team was surprised when Khia resorted to the tactics that forced them to eliminate her, since they’d previously favored her to win the competition.

"Before the nun part, she was kicking original raps and we were all impressed, like ‘Khia is really talented, she might even win this damn thing, this will be great for us because she’s dramatic, but also she’s really committed to the process,’" Wilson said. "Then we get to the nun part and she dips into her bag of tricks. She’s the type of girl they say Lauryn [Hill] and Foxy are, like she can be the sweetest girl and then get mad and go crazy and she’s so emotional."

In other Wilson news, a Jay-Z biography may also be in the works. Wilson says the two are expected to meet about the potential project after the end of Hov’s "Heart of the City" tour.

"He’s the one making history," Wilson told SOHH. "I think the Live Nation deal is an intriguing situation. This guy is trying to be the Rolling Stones of hip-hop, someone who at 45-years-old can tear down the stage and be the top rapper and that’s exciting for me because I don’t know if he can do it. It’s never been done but if anybody can do it, it’s him. I think there’s gonna be a lot of books about Jay-Z when it’s all said and done, but I feel like I bring a perspective that needs to be told. I hope we can find a way to make it work."

Wilson also shared with SOHH his views on the turmoil at G-Unit, with Young Buck being ousted from the group but still signed to the label.

"50 should just let Young Buck go already," Wilson says. "I’m tired of hearing about it. 50 should just give the n*gga his contract and let him go already, like Olivia. Just let the n*gga go already. He’s from the south, he wants to be friends with everybody. Let the n*gga ride. Come on Curtis. I’m gonna make some "Let Young Buck Go" t-shirts."

U2 scrap new album plans and now start again

U2 scrap new album plans and now start again

It is just another way of saying we are saving these for B-sides when we are old

Rockers U2 are scrapping all the tracks they have written for their next album to start all over again - ditching a year’s worth of work.
The band has been working on the follow up to 2004 LP How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb for the past 12 months, but they’re far from happy with the results.
Guitarist The Edge reveals bandmembers have mostly messed around in the studio - and they have now decided to get stuck in and finish the record.
He tells CMUMusic.com, "We went into this project allowing ourselves the indulgence of making music without thinking about where it was going to end up. We’re starting to get serious now".

HUGE NEWS DAY, JUDAS PRIEST FANS WITH NEW TOUR

April 24, 2008

HUGE NEWS DAY, JUDAS PRIEST FANS WITH NEW TOUR

4/21/08 - YEAH!!!!!!!!! HUGE NEWS DAY, PRIEST FANS!!!!!

Where do I start? Want to hear the new title track to "Nostradamus"? Click here!

The US release date is now reportedly June 17th!

Second, the US Tour was officially announced today, with Heaven & Hell (aka Black Sabbath w/ Dio), Motorhead and, yes, Testament opening! What a HUGE fucking show! Pre-sale is this week for the first shows announced. I’ll be going to at least the NJ show and waiting for the CT date.

Thanks to KNAC.com for the following info:

After weeks of speculation, Live Nation has put together a killer package that is bound to go down as the heavy metal event of 2008 - Judas Priest, Heaven and Hell, Motorhead, and Testament will be touring together for the first time.

Dubbed ‘The Metal Masters Tour,’ the sixteen date U.S. trek kicks off August 6th at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey.

Judas Priest will be supporting their epic concept album, ‘Nostradamus,’ which will arrive on June 17th via Epic Records, and tells the tale of the renowned 16th century prophet. A few tracks from ‘Nostradamus’ will make their in-concert debut on ‘The Metal Masters Tour,’ but the majority of Priest’s set list will include some of metal’s all-time classics, as well as fan favorites that span the quintet’s entire career. Without a doubt, this will be one of Priest’s most powerful sets ever. As a ‘sneak peak treat’ to fans starved for a musical taster, the first cut off the new album will make its world premiere debut as exclusive free MP3 download starting today exclusively at www.livenation.com/judaspriest.

Heaven & Hell will be supporting the release of The Rules Of Hell, a five-CD boxed set available on July 22nd from Rhino Records which features re-mastered versions of all four Dio-era Black Sabbath albums (‘Heaven and Hell,’ ‘Mob Rules,’ ‘Live Evil,’ and ‘Dehumanizer’) in a deluxe package with new liner notes.

Perennial road rats Motorhead will be touring strictly for the love of it, offering a fan favorites set spanning more than three decades worth of molar-rattling metal. Motorhead’s last album was 2006’s ‘Kiss of Death’ (released via Sanctuary Records), their 19th studio set of their long and highly influential career. A new album is currently in the works as well, which is currently being recorded at their old pal Dave Grohl’s studio with a August release date targeted. Lemmy blairs out, "Here it comes everybody, the test of your Metalness in 2008 and the years to come! Come one come all and be abused!"

Rounding out the line-up will be legendary thrash metal titans Testament, whose new album, ‘The Formation of Damnation,’ (April 29th,) displays Testament as the quintessential modern heavy metal band, whose experience and accumulated skill allows them to attack with reserves of anger, energy and finesse that make them more powerful than ever. Lead singer Chuck Billy says, “Uniting these bands is the heavy metal event of generations. We are so proud to be a part of it.”

Although all four bands may represent different subgenres of heavy metal, all four have one thing in common – they have stuck to their stylistic guns through thick and thin, and have remained true to the metal form. And soon, band and fan will be united as one on ‘The Metal Masters Tour.’

“As ever, we look forward to screaming out loud with our metal maniac fans when we hit the road,” enthuses Priest singer, Rob Halford. “Thank you once again for your devotion and support. The Priest is back!”

This tour will be limited to fifteen very special engagements, and Citi cardmembers will have pre-sale access to tickets through Citi’s Private Pass® Program, available to all Citi cardmembers at www.privatepass.citi.com.

Metal maniacs seeking the ultimate concert experience can access unique VIP ticket and fan experience packages that offer premium seats, meet & greets, pre-concert parties and more brought to you by the band’s official websites, www.judaspriest.com and www.heavenandhelllive.com. PEOPLE IN PLANES TRACK LISTING FOR BEYOND THE HORIZON SCHEDULED FOR FULL DIGITAL ALBUM

April 24, 2008

PEOPLE IN PLANES ANNOUNCE TRACK LISTING FOR BEYOND THE HORIZON SCHEDULED FOR FULL DIGITAL RALBUM ELEASE JUNE 24, 2008 AND IN STORES AUGUST 12, 2008

QUINTET TOURS CANADA AND THE US PREVIEWING REPETOIRE FROM UPCOMING OFFERING

Toronto — Welsh quintet People In Planes have announced the twelve song track listing of their upcoming Wind-up Records release BEYOND THE HORIZON.  In order, the songs are “Last Man Standing,” “Mayday (M’aidez),” Get on the Flaw,” “Pretty Buildings,” “Better Than Life,” “Flesh and Blood,” “Beyond the Horizon,” “Know by Now,” “Tonight the Sun Will Rise,” “I Wish You’d Fall Apart,” “Vampire,” and “Evil With You.”  The second album displays People In Planes’ intuition for making diverse music in its very essence as they worked with four producers in seven different studios across America, England and Wales in a quest to create something musically and sonically diverse.  They succeeded, through the counterbalance of producers which included Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida, Queens of The Stone Age collaborators ‘Eleven,’ Panic At The Disco producer Matt Squire and Doves / Massive Attack producer Dan Austin, who they had worked with on the early demos for their debut AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE.

Months ago, the quintet shared “Pretty Buildings,” as a first offering from these numerous sessions.  The track, available at digital retailers, while being posted on blogs across the Internet, was received with raves from dozens of tastemakers, and thousands of fans.  Newsweek exclaimed, “This ballad, rich in melody with strong, searching lyrics, shows why this group is one to watch.”  The first single from BEYOND THE HORIZON “Mayday (M’aidez)” will be available via iTunes on May 6, bundled with “Last Man Standing” and a video of “Pretty Buildings.” That clip, which originally premiered on Pure Volume, can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp-Wg0njn7Y.

People In Planes began a North American tour in front of BEYOND THE HORIZON at SXSW in March.  This excursion will continue for the foreseeable future as the band continues to preview the material from the upcoming album.  Guitarist Peter Roberts offered, “Touring for Beyond The Horizon has felt like a re-birth in as much as we’ve spent a year fine tuning the record, and consequently every chord change feels like a special one!  The dynamic of the band is now even vaster in the lead vocals being a two-pronged attack, arrangements and sonic capabilities are even grander, but essentially song wise – people are already singing every word of our first Internet release ‘Pretty Buildings’.  Thank God for the web.”

The itinerary for People In Planes current tour brings them to stages across the U.S. and Canada including these confirmed appearances:

Get the latest downloadable mix from Thomas Dolby on latest Radiohead album

Gee this scientist is pretty smart:

SUFFOLK, England (AP) - You may have heard that Radiohead have released the song parts to their current single "Nude" so that fans could remix it as they wanted.

Thomas Dolby was one of those fans who took Radiohead up on the offer. Dolby says he downloaded the parts from iTunes to see if his wireless router would let him get reception at the beach in front of his house.

He says he was shivering by the North Sea wrapped in a blanket with his laptop as he remixed the song. He calls it "Nude (Bathing In The Icefloe Mix)" and he submitted it to the Radiohead site like hundreds of other fans.

It’s available for free at www.radioheadremix.com/remix/?id1825. There are no plans to release it commercially.

Interview: 50 Cent continues to attack Alicia Keys racial attack

Interview: 50 Cent continues to attack Alicia Keys racial attack

The singer explained that her statements suggesting the genre was a government conspiracy "to convince black people to kill each other" was "misrepresented." But 50, as previously reported, isn’t buying it.

"I don’t like Alicia Keys no more…If she thinks what they consider [to be] gangsta music is [made] to bring black people down, then I think my s*** falls into that category," he said, according to E! Online. "I don’t like people who don’t like me."

The self-described gangsta rapper also went after Keys’ talent on the piano.

"I don’t think that [her] classical s*** is cool. I don’t give a f*** if you can classically play the piano," he said. "I haven’t been classically trained, because my upbringing, nobody put me in front of a piano at that time…I could f**king care less about the s***. So she don’t like the music that embodies the harsh realities because they’re not her realities. She hasn’t been subjected to the same things."

In a statement clarifying her remarks in Blender, Keys said: "The point that I was trying to make was that the term was over-sloganized by some of the media causing reactions that were not always positive," Keys said in her statement. "Many of the ‘gangsta rap’ lyrics articulate the problems of the artists’ experiences and I think all of us, including our leaders, could be doing more to address these problems including drugs, gang violence, crime, and other related social issues."
