TOM MORELLO OF RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE TO RELEASE ANTICIPATED SOLO ALBUM, THE FABLED CITY, SEPTEMBER 30th, 2008 VIA EPIC RECORDS

11-SONG SET FEATURES APPEARANCES BY SYSTEM OF A DOWN’S SERJ TANKIAN AND SHOOTERJENNINGS

August 29th, 2008 — New York, New York — Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine is set to release the solo album, The Fabled City, September 30th, 2008 via Epic Records.  The 11-song set is the anticipated follow up to the 2007 The Nightwatchman debut One Man Revolution.  Now being billed as Tom Morello : The Nightwatchman, the album is the first release to bear the political and social activist’s birth name. The Fabled City was produced by Brendan O’Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam) and features appearances by System Of A Down’s Serj Tankian and Shooter Jennings.

In addition to his career as a critically acclaimed solo artist, Tom Morello is a founding member and guitarist of the rock bands Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave.  The two bands are responsible for multiple Grammy Awards and a combined 30 million albums sold worldwide.  Widely known for his unique voice as a master electric guitarist, his compositions as Tom Morello : The Nightwatchman have been primarily based around the acoustic guitar. However, as his Myspace page firmly states, “You don’t have to be loud, son, to be heavy as shit,” and the stories and sounds presented throughout the album showcases a depth and intelligence rarely heard in the modern musical climate surrounding it.  With more complex electric arrangements than displayed on One Man Revolution, The Fabled City is the synthesis of his groundbreaking work as an innovative rock guitarist and revolutionary acoustic troubadour.

When describing The Fabled City, Morello stated “My goal was to capture the energy and emotion of The Nightwatchman live shows. There is a much more rocking quality to this record, solos and riffs, mixed with darker acoustic songs. I think my singing has come a long way as well. I had a lot of devastating losses of family and friends during the past two years and The Fabled City is a search for hope through music and confronting injustice.”

In the spring of 2008, Morello launched The Justice Tour, a nationwide concert tour formed in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of The Human Rights Declaration. The tour, which featured performances from Perry Farrell, Slash, Dave Navarro, Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains, Wayne Kramer of the MC5, Sen-Dog of Cypress Hill and more, visited cities with a day dedicated to a local charity and a rock show to benefit that charity at each stop.  The tour performances were an extension of the periodic residency he has presided over for the past two years at the intimate Los Angeles, CA venue, Hotel Cafe, and included live performances of many songs from The Fabled City.

Recognized by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the “100 Greatest Guitar Players of All-Time (#26),” Morello is one of only two guitarists featured as a playable animated character in the overwhelmingly popular Activision video gameGuitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

Tom Morello graduated from Harvard University with honors as a Political Science major and has been a widely recognized political activist throughout his career.  In 2006, he was the recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award.  Morello’s family has been a constant source of political and social inspiration as his great-uncle, Jomo Kenyatta was the first president of Kenya, and his mother, Mary Morello, founded Parents for Rock and Rap, an anti-censorship counterweight to Tipper Gore’s PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center).  With System of A Down’s Serj Tankian, Morello formed Axis of Justice, an organization whose purpose is to bring together musicians, music fans, and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice and hosts it’s inspired radio show, The Axis of Justice Radio Network.

As a producer, Morello has worked with The Crystal Method, Anti-Flag, Puff Daddy, and many more.  He has also scored compositions for major motion pictures such as the 2008 hit Iron Man (where he can also be seen as an actor), The Matrix, Collateral, Charlie’s Angels, Talladega Nights, XXX: State of the Union and more.

More Scars On Broadway Dates, New Music Video

SCARS ON BROADWAY
ADDS THREE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA DATES
TO FALL NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
Award-Winning Film Director Joel Schumacher Directs Band’s New Music Video

Los Angeles, CA - (August 28, 2008) — Scars on Broadway has added more dates to their first-ever North American tour, including one in their hometown of Los Angeles. Guitarist/vocalist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan, joined by guitarist Franky Perez, keyboardist Danny Shamoun and bassist Dominic Cifarelli, will headline L.A.’s Avalon Ballroom on Tuesday, November 18, followed by the House of Blues in Anaheim on Wednesday, November 19, and then the House of Blues in San Diego on Friday, November 21. The six week, cross-country trek kicks off October 19 in Atlanta, GA (full itinerary below), and is in support of the band’s self-titled debut album which was released on July 29 (Interscope).

For complete information regarding on-sale dates and the purchase of tickets, log onto www.scarsonbroadway.com

Coinciding with the North American tour, Scars on Broadway just finished a new music video for the track “World Long Gone,” The “World Long Gone” video was directed by the award-winning Joel Schumacher who directed major motion pictures including the Brat Pack classic “St. Elmo’s Fire,” as well as “The Lost Boys,” John Grishman’s “The Client” and “A Time to Kill,” the cardiac thriller “Flatliners,” and the controversial drama “Falling Down” starring Michael Douglas. The video was shot last week at a desolate Southern California desert location, near Vasquez Rocks in Agua Dulce, where countless feature films and television series have been shot, including “Star Trek,” “Planet of the Apes,” “Twilight Zone,” and “24.” The video also has a cameo appearance by supermodel Jessica Miller.

Scars on Broadway’s Malakian and Dolmayan have made their share of provocative videos with their multi-Platinum, Grammy-winning band System of a Down, and the new Scars video will be no different. Scars and Schumacher made the decision to eschew gimmicks, flashy wardrobes and facades for this video, instead choosing to illustrate the “simple man” and his feelings of disconnection. Through their website, the band invited a dozen or so of their fans to be in the video as “travelers and drifters.” By the video’s conclusion, it is hoped that the audience will see the inevitable interconnection between us all through our lifestyles and life decisions. The “World Long Gone” video is expected to have its premiere in September.

With the new video safely in the can, Scars on Broadway have traveled to Europe where they have just kicked off their headline tour that will include a few major festivals.

So why are F-Fest organizers beaten badly during this Radiohead tour ?

August 29, 2008

The F Yeah Fest takes place in Los Angeles this weekend and features sets from No Age, High Places, Abe Vigoda, Mika Miko, Negative Approach, and dozens of others. So you’d think that promoters Sean Carlson and Phil Hoelting would be in jubilant spirits as the festival rapidly approaches. But an incident after Radiohead’s Monday night show at the Hollywood Bowl, which Carlson and Hoelting used as an opportunity to flyer the F Yeah Fest, has soured the preparations.

Filmmaker Michael Reich, who created Videothing.com, was filming Carlson and Hoelting when they noticed a scuffle outside the Radiohead show. The threesome rushed over as security guards brutally ejected one fan from the show. “They’re strangling him – brutally,” said Carlson. In the ensuing mêlée Carlson was wrestled to the ground after intervening and Reich captured the whole incident on camera.

A chase ensued after Hoelting heard one of the guards say: “That shit’s going to be on YouTube. We gotta get that tape.” Despite their heroic efforts to secure the safety of the recording, Reich and Carlson ended up getting badly beaten by the guards. The guards also attacked onlooker Zachary Dawes, who was thrown the tape during the chase.

A group of police officers were on the scene and didn’t lift a finger to help either of the victims—perhaps unsurprisingly considering the security guards at the Bowl are all off-duty LAPD officers. The tape remains missing and Reich has filed a police report on the incident. You can read a lengthy recap of the incident, as told by Randall Roberts, who was also at the scene, here.

Listen to some tracks from U2 upcoming album

August 29, 2008

The new U2 song is now online. (Well, at least the drum part is). Larry Mullen Jr can be viewed laying down the drum beat for the new U2 single `Sexy Boots` now at their website.

`Sexy Boots` will be the first single from album, which expected to be called `No Line On The Horizon`.

The band has already been behind a well-hyped publicity stunt to raise awareness of the album. Bono “accidentally” played the new album very loud through an open window, a fan heard it, recorded it and before you knew it, fans all over the world were doing their own versions of the `Sexy Boots` riff and putting it on YouTube.

You have to say one thing; Bono does deserve a marketing award for that.

`No Line On The Horizon` will be released in November, which means that before the year is out we will hear new albums from U2, Metallica, AC/DC and possibly Guns `N Roses.

Listen to Larry laying down the drums for Sexy Boots at u2.com

The Cure to release new album in October (they think)

August 28, 2008

After countless delays, the Cure have given their long-awaited new studio album a release date, as well as a name. On October 13, the pop goth vets will drop what they are calling 4:13 Dream, which will mark their first full-length since 2004’s The Cure. But considering all the setbacks this new record has had, and a post on the Cure’s website saying the album will be released on “October 13th… We think,” it’s hard to believe this is all set in stone.

The release, if it happens, will follow the band’s recent singles campaign, which kicked off back in May. Through the project, the band have produced four singles — “The Only One,” “Freakshow,” “Sleep When I’m Dead” and “The Perfect Boy.” On September 13, the Cure plan to wrap up the campaign with the release of a remix EP titled Hypnagogic States, which features re-workings of the four singles by, um, 30 Seconds to Mars, My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy, among others.

No tracklisting has been announced yet for 4:13 Dream, which will be released by Suretone/Geffen, but there is one for Hypnagogic States. Here it is, Jared Leto and all:

1. “The Only One” (Remixed by 30 Seconds to Mars)
2. “Freakshow” (Remixed by AFI’s Jade Puget)
3. “Sleep When I’m Dead” (Remixed by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance and Julien-K)
4. “The Perfect Boy” (Remixed by Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy and Patrick Stump)
5. “Exploding Head Syndrome” (All four singles remixed by 65 Days Of Static)

Is Radiohead worth the traffic jam chaos during this tour?

August 28, 2008

Concertgoers bound for Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre in Chula Vista Wednesday night would be wise to get an early start. Organizers of the sold-out Radiohead concert advise fans to expect heavy southbound traffic on Interstate 805 at Auto Park Drive, just west of the venue.

The parking lot opens at 4 p.m., with the concert scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Organizers suggest concertgoers carpool and head for the amphitheater early. In May, traffic gridlock around Cricket caused many music fans to miss much of a Police reunion concert.
